The new DMG DMF 400/11 Machine Investment by ASG AMF Engineering

ASG AMF Engineering has recently fortified its manufacturing capabilities with a significant investment in a DMG DMF 400/II, a state-of-the-art machine valued at £830,000. This cutting-edge machine boasts a 4-meter working envelope with a 4.6-meter bed by 1.1 meters, featuring an inbuilt turning capacity capable of handling up to 1-meter diameter, allowing for mill-turning capacity. Additionally, it includes inspection-grade probing for in-process measuring and first article inspection, significantly enhancing the company's precision and efficiency.

The acquisition of the DMG DMF 400/II marks a significant enhancement in ASG AMF Engineering's ability to undertake large-scale projects. The machine can manage workpieces up to 8 tonnes, which opens the door to a variety of high-demand industries. Typical components that can be produced with this advanced machine include long parts for Formula 1 simulation equipment and critical parts for the semiconductor industry. This investment greatly boosts the wider ASG Group's capacity to handle large-bed projects, creating new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Simon Kirkman, Managing Director of ASG AMF Engineering, commented on the investment: "The acquisition of the DMG DMF 400/II is a pivotal step in our strategy to offer unmatched precision and versatility in manufacturing. This machine's capabilities allow us to meet the stringent demands of industries such as motorsports and semiconductors, positioning us as a leader in high-performance engineering solutions."

Zack Kirkman, Technical Manager, highlighted the technical advancements brought by the new machine: "With the integrated turning capacity and advanced probing technology, we can ensure superior accuracy and efficiency in our production processes. The ability to measure and inspect in-process not only enhances our quality control but also accelerates our production timelines."

Simon Weston, Managing Director of ASG Group, provided a broader perspective on the significance of this investment: "The DMG DMF 400/II represents more than just a new machine; it symbolises our commitment to innovation and excellence. By expanding our large bed capacity, we are now able to undertake more complex and larger projects, driving growth and reinforcing our position in the market. This investment underscores our dedication to providing top-tier engineering solutions to our clients by adding unique group capability."

Technical Advancements and Specifications

The DMG DMF 400/II investment is a leap forward in technology and capability for ASG AMF Engineering. It offers maximum flexibility with its large working area and modular platform concept, tailored to meet diverse manufacturing requests. The machine supports 4-axis machining with a B-axis and 5-axis machining with an integrated rotary table, making it suitable for complex geometric tasks. The optional mill-turn technology enables the handling of highly complex geometries on a single machine, increasing efficiency and reducing setup times.

The machine's robust construction features three linear guideways in the X-axis and a single-piece machine bed made of cast iron, ensuring constant rigidity across the entire working area. This design supports a high chip volume and maximum productivity. With spindle speeds ranging from 12,000 to 20,000 rpm and torque up to 430 Nm, the DMF400/II can handle a wide range of machining tasks with high precision and superior surface quality.

High thermal stability, achieved through advanced cooling measures like internally cooled ball-screws, and a helical toothed belt and grinded ball screws in all axes, ensures the machine maintains accuracy even during prolonged operations. A dynamic package with linear drive in the X-axis and enhanced acceleration and feed rates in the X, Y, and Z axes further maximise productivity.

Additional features such as collision-free tool changes, a tool magazine with up to 120 pockets, and a tool length capacity of up to 400 mm (540 mm HSK-A100) reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency. The machine also offers a variety of table options to meet different requirements and DMG MORI Technology Cycles, like angularTOOL, to further boost productivity.

The DMG DMF 400/II's impressive specifications and capabilities mark a significant milestone for ASG AMF Engineering and the ASG Group. With this enhanced capacity, the company is poised to deliver superior products and services, meeting the evolving needs of their clients across various high-tech industries.
