UK Export strength optimised by ASG Group

ASG Arrowsmith adding their 2024 King’s Award to their 2020 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade

The recent release of the ADS Group’s 2024 Facts and Figures report highlights the remarkable contribution of the aerospace, defence, security, and space sectors to the UK economy. Adding £38.2 billion in value last year, the sectors have shown a 50% growth in the past decade. With a combined turnover of £88.4 billion in 2023 and a 32% increase in exports over the last 10 years, these industries are a testament to the UK’s position as a global leader in high-value manufacturing and export.

This success resonates strongly with ASG Group and, in particular, ASG Arrowsmith, whose recent recognition in the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade underscores its significant export achievements. The Coventry-based engineering firm, which forms a key part of the ASG Group, specialises in Specialists in CNC Machining, Turning,  Milling, Thread Rolling and Grinding plus a range of NDT, CMM, Thread and Hydraulic pressure testing services and has seen its overseas sales soar by nearly 400% since the pandemic. Exports now account for 35% of the company’s £10m annual turnover, with precision components shipped to major markets including China, France, Germany, Singapore, and Spain. These components play critical roles in aerospace engines, landing gear, and airframes, highlighting the essential nature of ASG Arrowsmith’s contribution to global aerospace supply chains.

The growth trajectory at ASG Arrowsmith reflects the broader trends identified in the ADS report. Productivity in the aerospace sector is 42% higher than the UK average and has increased by 16% since 2013. Employment in these industries has risen by almost a third over the last decade, with two-thirds of jobs based outside of London, showcasing their role in regional economic development. ASG Arrowsmith exemplifies this with its investments in advanced technology and robotics at its Bayton Road facility, alongside the creation of ten new jobs. This investment has bolstered the company’s capacity and competitiveness, enabling it to win contracts against larger international rivals.

Looking ahead, ASG Arrowsmith is poised to build on its momentum. Strategic partnerships with major industry players such as Rolls-Royce, ITP, Mecachrome, Siemens, and Incora are set to drive annual sales beyond £25 million within the next two years. This growth is anticipated to create an additional 15 jobs in the UK, further enhancing the company’s economic contribution.

Jason Aldridge, Managing Director of Arrowsmith Engineering, reflected on the company’s remarkable turnaround: “Our focus on investment, innovation, our global footprint and nurturing strategic partnerships has been key to our success, and we are excited to continue driving growth in both domestic and international markets.”

ASG Arrowsmith’s achievements align seamlessly with the ADS report’s findings, reinforcing the UK’s reputation for excellence in aerospace manufacturing and exports. As the sector continues to grow and innovate, ASG Arrowsmith is ready to play its role in securing the country’s position as a global leader in high-precision engineering.
