ASG Group Embraces On Shoring Of New Work Through Automation and Lights Out

ASG Group Automation Investment at ASG Arrowsmith

In an industry where precision, reliability, and efficiency are critical, ASG Group’s focus on automation and lights-out manufacturing is ensuring its sustained success and growth. By integrating these advanced technologies into their operations, ASG Group is well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the aerospace sector and maintain its position as a trusted partner to some of the world's leading aerospace companies.

In the heart of Coventry, Jason Aldridge, Managing Director of ASG Arrowsmith Engineering, discusses the growing role of automation across the manufacturing landscape.  The integration of an automated pallet feeder investment into their Doosan CNC machines has revolutionised machining processes. "Automation has become our ally, allowing us to focus on complex tasks while repetitive processes are seamlessly handled, ensuring our commitment to delivering excellence," Aldridge explains. This streamlined workflow not only enhances precision but significantly reduces lead times, allowing the team to respond nimbly to market demands[MR2] .

Further north, ASG AMF Engineering, under the guidance of Managing Director Simon Kirkman, is also embracing automation. A KUKA robot investment at ASG AMF, powers the company's cutting-edge thermal spray capability. This both accelerates production and enhances safety and precision in thermal coating applications. "Our investment in robotic technology is a strategic move to stay at the forefront of innovation. Automation doesn't replace our workforce; it empowers them to delve into more intricate, value-driven tasks," Kirkman notes.

Meanwhile, at ASG Produmax, the drive towards automation has been equally impactful as the firm becomes synonymous with the concept. Managing Director Jeremy Ridyard highlights their recent investments in a new facility and CNC machine tools. By targeting work previously outsourced to the Far East and bringing it back to the UK, ASG Produmax needed to integrate advanced automation. "Our commitment to automation has not only improved our operational efficiency but also reinforced our position as a leader in aerospace manufacturing," Ridyard emphasises.

The adoption of lights-out manufacturing—running production processes with minimal or no human intervention during off-hours—has been a game-changer for ASG Group. This approach maximises machine utilisation, reduces labour costs, and increases production capacity without compromising quality.

Simon Weston, Group Managing Director of ASG Group, underscores the strategic importance of automation in their operations. "Investing in automation and lights-out manufacturing is essential for maintaining our competitive edge in the aerospace industry. It allows us to optimise our resources, enhance precision, and deliver on our promise of excellence to our clients," Weston explains. "This technological advancement aligns with our vision of innovation and operational efficiency, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry."

The implementation of automation and lights-out manufacturing across ASG Group’s locations has led to significant improvements in productivity, safety, and cost efficiency. By automating repetitive and hazardous tasks, ASG Group is protecting its workforce and enabling its team to focus on more complex, value-added activities. This shift not only enhances job satisfaction but also drives continuous improvement and innovation within the company.

As ASG Group continues to expand its automation capabilities, it remains committed to investing in advanced technologies that empower its workforce and drive operational excellence.
